The 1974 Graduates of St Xavier High School made a commitment a long time ago to do something constructive and creative for others whenever they have their annual reunion rather than focusing just on themselves at some local watering hole. This year it was our turn to profit of their time and talents. With many projects and dreams on our “Wish List” they committed Saturday May 21st to repainting the hallways on Jeanne Jugan Unit. At times it seemed like an obstacle course both for them and us as they spread themselves the length of the long corridor and, under the direction of John Meiman, displayed various degrees of painting skills, while we negotiated wheelchairs and walkers with the accompanying residents between ladders, containers of paint and drop cloths. Surprisingly, no paint was spilt, no one tripped and as the day progressed became a source of both amusement and entertainment for the residents.
Again, the display of camaraderie and care for one another as well as pride in being former students of St. X was evident. At the end of their labor our new-found friends enjoyed sharing a pizza meal in the Ice Cream Parlor and we assured them of our gratitude for a work well done.
