Celebrating Flag Day

  • July 5, 2011

Both family spirit and national pride were evident at the formal raising of the American Flag ceremony on June 14. Many of the Residents were able to gather round the flag pole thanks to a large number of Volunteers and AJJ members and other residents enjoyed their vantage point from the porches and their own rooms. Fr. Leo Spalding, our Chaplain led us all in prayer and then explained some of the history of our flag and the reason for this celebration.

After the flag the Pledge of Allegiance our State Representative, James (Jim) Wayne spoke of his association with our Home and how he always feels very welcomed in ‘this faith community of love and compassion. As this ceremony occurred before Mass Senator Wayne reminded everyone of the similarity between the Cross and the Flag: each one leads us into a fuller participation of what we are called to do – to love and serve one another and to be filled with pride and hope.
