Residents and Staff from St. Joseph’s Home recently participated in the Walk for Life sponsored by the Kentucky Right to Life group. Although the walk was long and the day was hot, the Little Sisters and staff who participated did so with vigor. They wore shirts specially produced for the occasion with a picture of St. Jeanne Jugan and the words “Walk for Life with St. Jeanne Jugan.”
Residents who were unable to walk for life were still able to participate with a “Rock for Life” event held in the Home. The Residents raised funds for Kentucky Right to Life by rocking in the auditorium in a circle of rocking chairs set up especially for the event. Coffee and donuts were served and a spirit of joy prevailed. However, the Residents and Staff of St. Joseph’s Home remembered the somberness of their mission as they read the following prayer before each event:
Prayer for Life
O God, or creator, all life is in your hands from conception until death. Help us to cherish our children and to reverence the awesome privilege of our share in creation. May all people live and die in dignity and love. Bless all those who defend the rights of the unborn, the handicapped and the aged. Enlighten and be merciful toward those who fail to love, and give them peace. Let freedom be tempered by responsibility, integrity and morality.
