Turtle Tales!

  • May 23, 2011

Where else but in Louisville, KY can you see not only the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” but “The Slowest Two Minutes in Sports!” Our 19th Annual Turtle Derby took place on May 1, 2011.  Despite thunder storms and flooding, the crowd poured into the home for the big event.

Over 30 turtle races kept everyone betting to the end for “The Slowest Two Minutes in Sports”! (Lic. #0419) The race fans studied their program for some insight on the turtle to pick.  The group cheered this year’s winning turtles and Sponsors: Turtle with names beginning with “S” were definitely lucky!

1st Tom Steltenkamp with Sheppy

2nd James McIntyre with Sumah’s Lightning

3rd Christopher Montfort Scooter

Congratulations to the lucky winner of our San Francisco trip, Mrs. Evelyn Copening!

Volunteers could be found at every booth and every nook and cranny in our home was filled with surprises and bargains for all. There were shoppers looking for bargains at the Silent Auction, Handbag Sale, Little Treasures, Gift Shop and Grandma’s Attic. T-Shirts advertising this fun event were sold in a variety of colors and sizes. Hungry diners enjoyed our famous fried chicken dinner and many paused to enjoy the live music band and found themselves tapping their toes to stirring music.

As this is one of our bigger fundraisers for the year, we want to thank all of you who came to visit us. It was a blessing for us to see both the old-timers and also the new faces who came – many of whom have new family members here now as Residents. We appreciate your support and generosity. The Turtle Derby is always fun for the entire family.  See you next year!

And the Band played on!
