She walked by faith the cobblestone streets of France with humility, a basket and a purpose … to care for the elderly poor. Today, in Little Sisters of the Poor’s Homes all over the world the mission she started continues. Canonized in 2009, St. Jeanne Jugan’s Feast Day is celebrated around the globe during the month of August and right here at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly Poor. Residents were treated to special events centered on the life and mission of our Foundress. Events included: word games, a cake walk, bingo and a carnival; as she would say, “Making the elderly happy – that is what counts!” On St. Jeanne Jugan’s Feast Day, St. Joseph’s celebrated a special Mass in her honor officiated by Archbishop Kurtz, followed by a delicious Feast Day Dinner.
“Love God very much, so that you can look after the aged well, for it is Jesus whom you care for in them.” J.J.
