The Kentucky State Fair, which was first organized in 1816 but did not become the official State Fair until 1902, has always been a favorite summer time event for all ages and one that the Residents at St. Joseph’s Home enjoy going to. Yet, for some of our Residents this fun-filled event was becoming difficult for them with the increased crowds, heat and mobility issues. Always looking for ways to provide the Residents with the activities they have enjoyed, the Activities Department at St. Joseph’s decided years ago to start having their own version of the State Fair. Complete with Freddie Jr., a slightly smaller version of the official Freddy Farm Bureau with his 18-foot frame that has been the greeter at the Kentucky State Fair of the last 56 consecutive years, the LSP State Fair has all of the attractions right here in the Home! With the tremendous support of our local merchants, St. Joseph’s Home held its 11th Annual State Fair this past July. At this favorite event there was something for everyone, from Midway Games, Contests, an Art Show and live farm animals to a cake baking contest and a concert with none other than Elvis! It was an amazing time! With so much going on it cannot be contained in any one day, so the LSP State Fair lasts for a week! Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers, staff and of course our marvelous Activities Department.
